Our students at Cybersec EXPO and Forum

On June 15–16, 2026, three UKEN students from the Cybersecurity program took part in Cybersec EXPO & Forum 2026 – one of the most important events dedicated to cybersecurity in Central and Eastern Europe.

Around 100 experts representing public administration, services, the scientific community and business, responsible for shaping the cybersecurity system on a daily basis, spoke at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.

The students emphasized that the conference clearly demonstrated that cybersecurity has expanded far beyond the narrow realm of IT and has become a common foundation for national security, business development, and the stability of key sectors – from finance and energy to healthcare and industry. In addition to technical topics, the program also featured panels on geopolitics, technological sovereignty, critical infrastructure protection, and the resilience of the state and local governments to the effects of the growing number of incidents.

The listeners were greatly impressed by the fact raised during the debates that, in the light of the approaching era of quantum communication, Poland has a chance to be in the avant-garde – Polish institutions are currently building the largest quantum key exchange network in Europe and the second largest in the world, PIONIER-Q, spanning over 1,700 kilometers, which will soon be joined by a dedicated satellite segment.

During numerous presentations and discussions, the motto of this year’s edition – “We are the firewall” – recurred repeatedly, emphasizing that cybersecurity doesn’t start with technology, but with people, their competencies, and responsibility for processes and data. Examples of the challenges discussed included the recent advanced attacks on universities, demonstrating that the science sector is becoming a key target for cyberattacks.

Summing up the event, students unanimously agreed that participating in Cybersec EXPO & Forum 2026 became an important benchmark in their educational process and confirmed that they had chosen an extremely responsible professional path. Effective cyber defense is determined by modernly trained specialists who can complement their technical skills with a broader perspective on security: processes occurring in the state, economy, science, and politics.
