SMICS-2026 – International Conference on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence at UKEN

The international scientific and technical conference SMICS-2026 – “Security of Modern Information and Communication Systems” – was held on September 24–25, 2026, at the University of the National Education Commission in Cracow.
The event brought together researchers, experts, and representatives of the academic community from Poland and abroad, specializing in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, information protection, cryptology, and modern information and communication systems.
The University of the National Education Commission in Kraków was one of the conference’s co-organizers, and staff from the UKEN Institute of Security and Informatics played a significant role in its preparation and execution.
The ceremonial opening of the conference took place on September 24 in the A1 Auditorium at UKEN. On behalf of the university authorities, the participants were welcomed by Associate Professor (UKEN) Jacek Chmieliński (Vice-Rector for Education), who emphasized the importance of international scientific cooperation and the development of modern research and educational paths in the field of new technologies.
Representatives of the Institute were actively involved in both the organizational and academic aspects of the conference. Participants included Professor Mikołaj Karpiński, PhD Beata Krzaczek, and MSc Łukasz Tomkiewicz, among others. UKEN staff members served on conference committees, chaired sessions, and presented research findings.
It is particularly gratifying to see the active involvement of the Institute’s young staff members – MSc Patryk Mazurek and MSc Justyna Golec – in organizing and conducting the conference; they supported the event’s execution and participated in its academic sessions. Their engagement demonstrates that international scientific initiatives are becoming a vital arena for the professional development of our Institute’s young academic staff.
Student participation in the presentation of research findings was also a significant aspect of the conference. Among the participants in the scientific sessions was Yevhenii Semenov, who co-presented a research paper. Involving students in international scientific discourse is a crucial element of their education and the development of their research skills.
The active participation of staff, early-career researchers, and students from the Institute of Security and Informatics confirms our unit’s growing engagement in international scientific and educational initiatives related to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and modern information technologies.
We thank all UKEN staff and students involved in organizing and conducting the conference, as well as all partners, speakers, and participants, for two days of intensive exchange of knowledge and experience.
